Control System

Up until this point, the typical method of controlling a character’s abilities has been a slim metal collar fastened around your character’s neck. The collar is light but locked, and cannot be removed without removing important things like one’s skull and spinal cord along with it. As not everyone tolerates this well, the scientists are working on a different methods; so far these include tattoos along the spine or paired earrings, often in conjunction.

Through a combination of science and magic, the collars allow the scientists to “dial down” your character’s abilities to fight to the point where they can trigger a black-out or paralysis. They can’t actually control minds or bodies; the character’s actions are still their own. They just won’t be able to use certain abilities to fight, or will only be able to use them in limited capabilities. (i.e., your planet-destroying beam of ki may be inaccessible or diminished to merely person- or room-destroying strength instead.)

The exact method of how this works is not known, even to the scientists, but they’re not saying that. They will be vague and evade all questions as to how the collars and control system works.

The control system is also why your character can understand the other characters are saying even if they’re from different universes. The collar (or alternative) assimilates a new language into the system as soon as it is attached.

If your collar is damaged during a fight, or hit with a powerful enough blow (physical, magical, especially electrical) your character can experience anything from vertigo and nausea to hallucinations or unconsciousness.
